Eugnostos the Blessed
Where does this fit in with Gnostic scripture? What school of thought does it seem to belong to?
I only came across this recently, and I found it a very interesting read. Oddly, (or not so oddly, as I have mostly read the most popular Gnostic texts) I had not heard of it before.

"Eugnostos the Blessed" (not Gnostic) was revised into "The Sophia of Jesus Christ". The Nag Hammadi Scriptures is a good place to start with this.

LOL! I missed this post! Oh Kushana, it just shows how much I have to learn. I was reading Eugnostos the Blessed and thought hmm, some of this sounds familiar. It is in the Nag Hammadi Scriptures I have, but not listed as such in the Gnostic Bible that I have. Big Grin
Sheesh, how embarassing. Thank you for clearing that up!
Do we have any more information about it? Dating or authorship?

I not know of much recent work on this text ... and the best resource I can point to is the translator's introduction in Robinson's NHLE.

There are not enough trained people to do this work (and the ones that are focus on obvious -- and sometimes irrelevant -- questions.)

RE: Eugnostos the Blessed
Why do you say it's not Gnostic? We have the same emanations cosmogeny as per ApJn, a high Christology, a sophiology that borders on salvific... everything's there but the soteriology of gnosis (but a good heaping of "stuff you have to know). So what is it? Just "Christian and weird"?

What part of "emanations cosmogeny implies by definition qualified monism - not dualism" don't you understand?

RE: Eugnostos the Blessed
Birger Pearson and Marvin Meyer seem to think it's Gnostic, although it's exact subcategory is problematic. Obviously non-Christian, although Meyer proposes it has Valentinian hints, except it doesn't have an emanation theology but the cosmology is actually a chain of independent beings stretching from and out of the Pleroma.
